Facebook Has Changed Your Email Address. Miffed?

If you’re a Facebook user, you may want to check your profile settings.

Facebook has switched your default email address to a shiny brand new facebook.com address. This move has certainly angered many Facebook users who do not feel the need to be burdened with yet another email account.

So without further ado… here’s how to undo the update and revert back to your old email address (you know, the one you actually use).

Click on “About” or “Update Info” to get your old email address back (highlighted in yellow)

  1. Go to your profile page.
  2. Under your Timeline cover click on “About” or “Update Info.”
  3. Under the Contact Info section, click “Edit.”
  4. Under the Emails section, find your new Facebook email and hover over the pull-down menus on the right and click “hidden from timeline.” You cannot remove the facebook.com email; you can only hide it. Sigh.

If you don’t like the idea of having any email address visible on your profile, you can hide all your addresses. That will prohibit any spam or any bots from gathering your information. Some people have opted to leave the facebook.com to thwart unwanted email, but I prefer to hide it so that someone doesn’t mistakenly try to contact me via an email account I don’t check. You have the option.

Facebook is a free service. It’s changed how we connect and stay connected. It’s changed the way we do business. There are 901 million active Facebook users worldwide. But moves like this one are making Facebook… well… unliked. What do you think of Facebook’s latest bold move?
