If you own a small business and handle your own marketing, this post is for you.

As a solopreneur, your online marketing strategy is going to rely on social media.

Social media is instrumental to getting the word out about your small business.

Before you start feeling overwhelmed, let me assure you do not need to be on social media every hour of the day.

I’ve owned a media company and been a social media manager since 2011, so I can vouch for these tools that have definitely made my life easier.

Here are 4 social media apps and services for solopreneurs…

Publer

When it comes to social media management, your biggest time-saver is using a social media scheduler.

Using a scheduler will not only enable you to schedule social media posts in advance, but it will help you with your social media strategy by managing your content calendar.

I’ve used many social media schedulers and social media calendars during my career and to date, my favourite is Publer. I use it for all my businesses and I’ve moved most of my clients to this platform as well.

Publer is easy-to-use, intuitive, and synchs with the most popular social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google Business, and LinkedIn.

Using Publer will help you establish a strong social media presence without costing you an arm and a leg.

Once it makes sense to do so, you can hire a social media manager to take this task completely off your hands. Until then, you can try Publer for free here.

Constant Contact

Part of your online strategy for building your business will include maintaining an email list.

You might feel like you won’t need email if you have a social media presence, but the truth is, social media and email work together to build an engaged audience.

Social media will expand your reach, but maintaining contact with people in a meaningful way is hard to do consistently on social media.

Ideally, you want to use social media to draw an audience in, and then get their consent to add them to your email list so you can stay in touch.

Constant Contact is an easy-to-use platform where you can design, schedule, and send bulk emails with ease.

You don’t need a graphic design or technical background. Constant Contact provides loads of templates you can then edit to incorporate your branding, colours, logo, images, and videos.

You can also create multiple mailing lists and send out emails to just certain people when it’s appropriate.

Constant Contact also lets you build landing pages and forms that you can also use to build your email lists.

Canva

You can’t be on social media if you haven’t got anything to share.

You need content.

You will definitely need written content, but you will also need to rely on images and videos. Audiences today tend to process and retain videos and images better than written content, and social media algorithms tend to prefer video and photo content over written content.

If you want to build brand awareness, you are going to need to know how to capture and edit photos, graphics, and videos. As a solopreneur, you will discover that you need to become a mini media company to a certain extent.

Canva has made it fast and easy to create visuals for social media (and beyond). It’s an intuitive click-and-drag platform that is easy to learn.

Canva provides templates, graphic elements, and stock photos so that you can create images for different social media platforms. With a Canva Pro account, you can easily reformat and resize your images so they  will look their best across all social media outlets.

You can also access stock video clips and templates, and do some simple video editing on a timeline.

Rev

You may be surprised to discover that most videos on social media are watched with the audio turned off.

This means that you are going to have to make sure your videos are closed captioned or subtitled, otherwise people will skip over them.

Some social media platforms allow you to enable closed captioning and some do not. You should make a point to proofread these captions as they may contain mistakes.

Thankfully, you can hire an inexpensive service to provide you with closed captioning files.

Rev not only creates closed captioning files for your videos but they can translate and create subtitles in different languages as well. This is especially helpful if you’d like to reach a global audience.

Rev can also transcribe your videos to text, which can be helpful if you’re repurposing your video content to create blog articles or other written content.
